Inspired by the essence of Pallavi — the opening refrain in a musical composition where rhythm, melody, and expression find harmony, the client envisioned a residence that echoed a similar balance of flow between their life and terrain. A home that gracefully held together the opposing desires of openness and seclusion, modernity and tradition, intricacy and simplicity. The brief called for a dwelling that would be bold in presence yet subtle in detail, much like the first note of a well-composed raga.
The design integrates openness and seclusion through strategic spatial and material interventions. A landscape wall, built using reclaimed elements from the client’s former home, forms both a buffer and a memory-laden element. Vertical openness is introduced through roof-level voids and elevated gathering spaces enclosed with crafted jali screens. The architectural language balances minimalism with detail, creating a rhythmic flow of light and shadow. The home becomes a Pallavi—an opening refrain of harmony between site, memory, and form.
